SUNDAY DIGEST | Pamela Anderson at home in her garden and an architect's LA retreat for $2M
Plus, market updates and a tiny home tour.
Welcome to the Sunday Digest! A new column at Check Out This House in my attempt to hold myself accountable to consistent, on-topic writing. This newsletter has been a little ~willy-nilly, loosey-goosey~ since its inception, and while I appreciate being True To Myself, I’ve begun to consider the idea that I ought to maintain some kind of regular posting that is relevant not only to my interests, but to those of my readers. And most of my readers are either friends or people who came here from my days as a real estate reporter.
So, Sundays will be informal round-ups of interesting and relevant real estate and home-related content from across the web from the past week.
What other things have you read this week that you loved or want to share? Drop a link in the comments. (Doesn’t have to be about real estate!)
Thinking of buying? Prices are cooling and inventory is growing, offering more favorable market conditions for buyers than we’ve seen on a national scale after years of a sellers’ market. Supply is still sitting below pre-2020 norms in areas such as the Northeast and Midwest, while “nearly all major Southern metros now exceed pre-COVID inventory levels.” [SFGate]
Continue paying rent despite consistent increases, or bite the bullet and spend hard-earned money on a down payment? The New York Times tackles this question in their Ask Real Estate column by Jill Terreri Ramos this weekend. And as with anything relating to real estate, the answer is not as simple as you may think! [New York Times]
Another decluttering rule to follow? Why the hell not! Shifrah Combiths explains to readers why “full hands in, full hands out” helps her household to maintain tidy spaces and leads to a “more restful experience in [her] home.” [Apartment Therapy]
Built in 1988, architect Conrad Buff’s own Los Angeles home has hit the market for $1.98 million. Inside 2,244 square feet, the home features two bedrooms, three baths, a floor-to-ceiling wall of windows, and a sliding door that allows for easy transitions between the interior living space and the outdoor patio. It was the last home the architect designed, for himself and his wife, Libby. [Dwell]
Pamela Anderson poses for photos in her beautiful garden at her home on Vancouver Island, all while sporting a bob that’s part-Anna Wintour, part-Hitchcock blonde. I’m obsessed! [Architectural Digest]
I adored writer Louise Southerden’s tiny home tour. The interior design is natural and fairly minimalist, but her day loft/reading area is particularly beautiful. [Living Big in a Tiny House]
Well, that’s it for this week. See you next Sunday for more links from the world-wide-web itself.
